Chalk Hill is a ruggedly beautiful 1,477 acre estate. Surrounded by heritage oak woodlands and natural riparian streams, a scant 350 vineyard acres meander— a patchwork of 60 different small vineyards, each dedicated to producing distinctive wines of elegance and power.
All wines at Chalk Hill are estate bottled, but our philosophy goes beyond the conventional definition. Each of our 60 vineyard blocks are tended throughout the year individually. The grapes are then hand harvested, parcel by parcel and fermented in small, distinct lots. This meticulous handling of the vines, grapes and finished wine allows the ultimate expression of Chalk Hill's many and varied terroirs.

When a wine is made with the most carefully chosen fruit, in very small quantities, with unsparing attention to detail, a new level of excellence becomes possible.
Merus is handmade in every sense of the word. It is Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville, one of the last great undiscovered territories in southern Napa Valley. Winemaker Camille Benitah and Director of Winemaking Paul Hobbs ensure that severe pruning, cluster sorting, small-lot fermentations and careful lot selection combine to create a wine that is dense, concentrated and nuanced.

The wines reflect the unique characteristics of each vintage and of the Rutherford growing district. It begins in the vineyard---as they use only a small percentage of the grapes grown on our estate, the fruit that is perfect to the eye and loaded with flavor. They hire harvest crews chosen for their selective picking techniques, and then hand sort to insure they are using nothing but the finest fruit. Using gentle, gravity-fed systems in the winery, a judicious use of oak barrel aging in the finest French oak, and daily attention to the wines during aging, they produce the finest wines possible in small, select quantities. Ttotal production is just 6,400 cases annually, and all wines are 100% estate grown and bottled.
